How to Block Unwanted Sitelinks in Google Search Results?
Google Sitelinks, the deeper links within a particular site that show up underneath the search result. These sitelinks enable users or readers to go directly to the most important pages of a site, which is often useful for sites having large number of webpages. Site links also have an added advantage of giving uses an idea of a website’s content by highlighting few posts that are popular in a site. This helps the user to jump directly to the landing page. Optimizing these landing pages help you reduce bounce rate.
Google uses an algorithm to generate site link for a website. So the structure completely depends upon the Google algorithm.
Fact : Google only display site links for a site when it has at least three sitelinks available.
However if you think the sitelink that is appearing in Google is not appropriate or relevant to your niche, there is a procedure to block those site links to make them not appear in the search results.
To block a sitelink that you don’t like showing in SERPs, follow the below steps:
- Go to Webmaster Tools -> Click on the site you want.
- Under Site configuration, Click Sitelinks. Google will display a list of sitelinks if your website has them.
- Click “Block” next to the sitelinks you want to remove. Also you have to mention the reasons why you are blocking the links – it will help Google to improve its sitelink algorithm.

- It will take some time to see the changes you have made to be visible.
