What is a DNS Verification FTW? How to Verify Using DNS in Webmaster Tools?
Google Webmaster Central recently introduced a new method of verifying site ownership, making it easy to share ownership with another user by “Adding a User” Option. Now it has been taken a step forward, Verification by DNS record that allows you to become a verified owner (user) of an entire domain including the sites/blogs within that domain. This facility provides both an alternative way to verify a site and also an easy way to verify all blogs/sites in a domain at once.
There is no need for you to separately add meta tags/html files to all your sites under a particular domain. This was the very best way for those users with multiple blogs within a single domain.
Say for example, my site is techzene.org and i have several other websites under techzene.org that include http://blog.techzene.org/, http://trends.techzene.org/ etc… So, here the verification will be done only once using DNS records instead of 3 times in old method using meta tags/html files.
How to Add/Verify a site using DNS Records?
- First add techzene.org to webmaster tools account by clicking on “Add a Site”.
- Select “Add a DNS record” option on the verification page.
- Next follow the below steps
- Add the TXT record below to your domains DNS configuration.[given in Webmaster Tools]
Ex: google-site-verification: dsdffjdfs933rcdc9mcsasdjaszxcjxzjj
- Click Verify
- Add the TXT record below to your domains DNS configuration.[given in Webmaster Tools]
- Now, the website “techzene.org” gets verified and also the sub-domains in that domain. You can then simply use any of those sites in Webmaster tools without having to verify ownership of each site individually.
Note that some times it doesn’t work right away. Don’t try to repair it. Google will periodically check, and when found the record will verify it without any further action from you. Stay Cool.
