SMO – Social Media Optimization Strategy
Social Media Optimization (SMO) is the method of using social media activities with the intent of attracting more unique visitors to a particular website. There are 2 types of methods in website optimization – SEO and SMO

and when it comes to SMO, there are again two categories
1. Social Media features (plug-ins) added to our website itself, i.e., adding RSS Feeds, Social News, Sharing buttons like digg, facebook, LinkedIn and user ratings/polling tools and also incorporating other functionalities like Images and Video Clips.
2. Promotional activities include blogging, blog commenting, participating in discussions and anwering questions, posting status messages (like in Google Buzz, Twitter) on Social networking sites (profiles).
Actually, the intention of Social Media is to drive traffic from sources other than just search engines. It is also closely related to Search Engine Marketing.
Social Media is connected to Viral Marketing in many ways where the promotion is done not only through friends and family, but also through the use of social networking like bookmarking, video sharing and image sharing sites. In the similar way, social media is dealing with blogs to achieve the same by sharing content through the use of blogosphere and blog search engines.
Many ORM’s (Online Reputation Management Specialists) use this SMO as their integral part when they deal with the clients online presence. Hiring a marketing agency is a very good thought if you don’t know the how-to’s of media marketing or web marketing.
