What are Unlocked Phones? Pros & Cons of an Unlocked Mobile Phone
What are Unlocked Phones?
It’s nothing but a cell phone i.e., not configured to any particular service provider and allow us to use multiple networks (SIMs) with no hassle. Whenever a customer buys a phone from a specific service provider (CDMA), the mobile comes in a locked state that cannot be accessed by any other SIM. However, if the mobile is un-locked, you can use any SIM Card you like. This is the simple difference between a locked cell phone and an unlocked phone.
Pros and Cons of Unlocked Mobile Phones:
The main advantage of an unlocked version is that you can easily switch between multiple mobile networks without having to stick to only one service provider. The drawbacks of unlocked mobiles is that you cannot access specific software’s and services that needs to connect to specific service provider. In such cases, the unlocked GSM phone will be unavailable to avail such facilities. Other than that, an unlocked mobile phone has got more advantages than disadvantages.
Is Using Unlocked Cell Phones Illegal?
Using unlocked mobiles is not at all illegal, however if you try to unlock a locked cell phone before the contract period, then it will be considered illegal as you are breaking the agreement. Else, it’s not considered Illegal if you un-lock it after the period of contract.
Also using an unlocked phone is not at all a crime and you can use it with whatever service provider you like.
